Over 200 UBC faculty, staff, emeriti and students from every corner of the campus volunteer during congregation. We invite you to take part in UBC’s rich history of service to the graduating class and their families and guests.
Volunteers are essential to help welcome and lead participants ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for graduates, faculty, and guests.
This Fall, we will be welcoming nearly 3,000 graduating students in 10 ceremonies. With a minimum of 11 volunteers needed per ceremony the time to get involved is now.
Available volunteer roles:
Macebearer (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Chancellor’s Procession and carries the Mace.
Faculty Marshal: (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Faculty Procession.
Graduand Marshal: (Faculty, Emeriti & Staff only) Assembles and leads graduands from the Student Marshaling Tent to the Chan Centre and assists them across the stage.
Graduand Usher: Assists graduands as they arrive in the Chan Centre Concert Hall and after they cross the stage.
Graduand Robing Assistant: Assists graduands with their regalia, ensures correct pinning, and answers questions to help prepare the graduands for the procession.
Wayfinding Ambassador: Assists congregation guests with wayfinding and general congregation information.
Volunteer orientations are scheduled for November 19 (in-person) and November 20 (virtual), during which we will review roles and answer any questions.
