Be Part of the Excitement!

Each year, over 150 UBC faculty, staff, emeriti, and students from every corner of the campus volunteer during Congregation. We invite you to take part in UBC’s rich history of service to the graduating class and their families and guests.

We celebrate the achievements of our graduating students through graduation ceremonies in the Spring (May) and Fall (November) each year. If you are interested in partaking in this enriching experience, please take a moment to complete the volunteer registration form below.

Available volunteer roles:

Macebearer: (for Faculty only) Leads the Chancellor’s Procession and carries the Mace.

Faculty Marshal: (for Faculty only) Leads the Faculty Procession and assists with doctoral candidates on stage.

Graduand Marshal: (for Faculty and Staff only) Assembles and leads graduands from the Student Marshaling Tent area to the Chan Centre and assists them across the stage.

Special Assistance Marshal: (Faculty, Emeriti & Staff only) Assists with latecomers and ensures graduands receive special assistance where required.

Graduand Usher: Assists graduands as they arrive in the Chan Centre Concert Hall and after they cross the stage.

Graduand Robing Assistant: Assists graduands with their regalia, ensures correct pinning, and answers questions to help prepare the graduands for the procession.

Wayfinding Ambassador: Assists congregation guests with wayfinding and general congregation information.

 

A volunteer orientation (in-person) and Q and A session (held online) will take place prior to graduation. Details will be shared upon shift confirmation.
