Be Part of the Excitement!

Each year, over 200 UBC faculty, staff, emeriti, and students from every corner of the campus volunteer during Congregation. We invite you to take part in UBC’s rich history of service to the graduating class and their families and guests.

We celebrate the achievements of our graduating students through graduation ceremonies in the Spring (May) and Fall (November) each year. If you are interested in partaking in this enriching experience, please take a moment to complete the volunteer registration form below.

Available volunteer roles:

Macebearer: (Faculty & Emeriti only)) Leads the Chancellor’s Procession and carries the Mace.

Faculty Marshal: (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Faculty Procession.

Graduand Marshal: (for Faculty, Emeriti & Staff only) Assembles and leads graduands from the Student Marshaling Tent to the Chan Centre and assists them across the stage.

Graduand Usher: Assists graduands as they arrive in the Chan Centre Concert Hall and after they cross the stage.

Graduand Robing Assistant: Assists graduands with their regalia, ensures correct pinning, and answers questions to help prepare the graduands for the procession.

Wayfinding Ambassador: Assists congregation guests with wayfinding and general congregation information.

Volunteer orientations are scheduled for November 19 (in-person) and November 20 (virtual), during which we will review roles and answer any questions. We recommend all Graduand Marshals, Wayfinding Ambassadors and Graduand Robing Assistants attend the in-person session on November 19th to see the new marshaling area in Brock Commons South.
