Volunteer at UBC Congregation 2022

Be Part of the Excitement!

Have you always wanted to be a part of the celebration? Do you want to give back to the UBC students and community? Now is your chance!

Over 150 UBC faculty, staff, emeriti and students from every corner of the campus volunteer during congregation. We invite you to take part in UBC’s rich history of service to the graduating class and their families and guests.

Volunteers are essential to help welcome and lead participants ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for graduates, faculty, and guests.

This Fall we will be welcoming nearly 3,000 graduating students over 10 ceremonies. With a minimum of 11 volunteers needed per ceremony the time to get involved is now.

Available volunteer roles:

Macebearer (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Chancellor’s Procession and carries the Mace.

Faculty Marshal: (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Faculty Procession and assists with doctoral candidates on stage.

Graduand Marshal: (Faculty, Emeriti & Staff only) Assembles and leads graduands from the Student Marshaling Tent area to the Chan Centre and assists them across the stage.

Special Assistance Marshal: (Faculty, Emeriti & Staff only) Assists with latecomers and ensures graduands receive special assistance where required.

Graduand Usher: Assists graduands as they arrive in the Chan Centre Concert Hall and after they cross the stage.

Graduand Robing Assistant: Assists graduands with their regalia, ensures correct pinning, and answers questions to help prepare the graduands for the procession.

Wayfinding Ambassador: Assists congregation guests with wayfinding and general congregation information.

A volunteer orientation will take place approximately 2 weeks before the start of graduation, during which we will review roles and answer any questions.
