Be Part of the Excitement!

Over 150 UBC faculty, staff, emeriti and students from every corner of the campus volunteer during congregation. We invite you to take part in UBC’s rich history of service to the graduating class and their families and guests.

This Fall, UBC will be celebrating the achievements of 3000 students over 15 ceremonies between November 23rd and 26th. During this time guests will be on campus to celebrate the graduating students and volunteers are instrumental in making the experience memorable for everyone.

Available volunteer roles:

Macebearer (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Chancellor’s Procession and carries the Mace.

Faculty Marshal: (Faculty & Emeriti only) Leads the Faculty Procession and assists with doctoral candidates on stage.

Graduand Marshal: (Faculty, Emeriti & Staff only) Assembles and leads graduands from the robing area to the Chan Centre and assists them across the stage.

Graduand Usher: Assists graduands at the Chan Centre with late arrival, priority seating, and leaving stage.

Graduand Robing Assistant: Assists graduands with their regalia, ensures correct pinning, and answers questions to help prepare the graduands for the procession.

Wayfinding Ambassador: Assists congregation guests with way-finding and general congregation information.

Proof of Vaccination Volunteer: Greets students and checks proof of  vaccination before entering the Student Marshalling Tent.

A volunteer orientation will take place on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 9AM to 11 AM during which we will tour the graduation sites and answer any questions.
