UBC students have a rich legacy of giving gifts and donations to the UBC Vancouver campus. Since 1919, there has been a tradition of gifting and/or dedicating a tree in honour of the graduating class.
The 2025 grad class tree is a Red Oak (Quercus rubra), located on the east side of Main Mall immediately north of University Boulevard. It is one of the almost 100 Oak Trees planted along Main Mall in the 1930s.
The gift to the University serves as a memorial to the outgoing class, a token of appreciation to the school and a reflection on time spent as students at UBC.
For 2025, in addition to the traditional graduating class tree, this year’s graduating class gifts from the AMS are:
- $10,000 towards the installation of printers in the Nest, ensuring students can easily access printing services between classes, meetings, and extracurriculars;
- $10,000 towards the refurbishment of the Revolving Gardens, located on the first and second floor of the Nest;
- and $8,000 towards the creation of a vibrant art mural in the Sustainability Corridor and entrance to UBC Rec North – celebrating movement, wellness, and the intersection of sustainability and active living.
