Graduation Regalia
The gowns, hoods and mortarboards worn by faculty and graduating students at the graduation ceremonies evolved from clothes worn by 12th-century European scholars to authenticate degrees. The University of British Columbia has proudly continued this tradition since its first graduation ceremony in 1916.
Rent your graduation regalia (gown, hood and mortarboards) online in advance of your ceremony. Appropriate academic attire is required of all participants.
Regalia rentals are made through the UBC Bookstore and open on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 12:00 pm and close on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:59 pm (PT).
For complete details, please visit the UBC Bookstore graduation page. FAQ’s are near the bottom of the page.
